Just a few things I have found helpful – I hope my Mama friends find it helpful too!

 

Polishing Silver  – line the bottom of the sink with aluminum foil, fill with warmish water (not hot), generously pour in salt (1/2 to whole container for our size kitchen sink + several layers of foil), “dunk” the silver pieces.  The tarnish just disappears.  If you want it perfect and very shiny, rub with a soft cloth while drying the pieces.

 

Clean your jewelry (gold and/or silver) by creating a paste from Baking Soda and Warm Water. Using a tooth brush brush the jewelry with the paste mixture, for an over night cleaning: soak your jewelry in Windex Window Cleaner.

 

Stain Removal (Blood): When you get blood in/on things – soak, if possible, immediately in cold water (with soap) – wash in cold water (with soap) – do not dry in the dryer until you are sure it is all out.   Can also scrub, with a brush, and regular hand soap to loosen the stain.

 

Don’t buy anything that can’t be washed in the dishwasher or the washing machine. 

 

When all else fails – wash it in the dishwasher or washing machine.  If it doesn’t “live” it wasn’t meant to be.

 

How to treat a burn: ICE – and lots of it!  Cool off that skin!

Ice “on” for 20 minutes – “off” for 20 minutes Taking it “off” helps prevents freezing your skin.  But the “on” time helps interrupt the burning/blistering.  Do this for AT LEAST 2 hours – until the skin is cool and has stopped frying/blistering. THEN – leave uncovered if possible.  No medicine.  Let the skin do what it’s going to do naturally.  Once it starts to blister, blisters pop, or it begins to peel – cover, and treat with Neosporin to prevent infection.

 

BRAT diet for your upset tummy! 

(Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and/or Toast!)

 

Liquid diet – is anything you can “see” through –

Water, Tea, Gatorade, Pedialyte, Bouillon, Diet Pop

not over 2-3 oz every 20-30 minutes –

should be body/room temperature

 

Intermediate Diet – comes next –

Cooked cereal with sugar or honey

Jello

Fruit Juice

Bananas

Toast w/jelly or honey

Graham or soda crackers

Regular pop

Eat small amounts more frequently, not three regular meals.

 

Rice bag for aching shoulders (and other body parts). Buy a large bag of rice, sew a piece of cotton into a “sack” – about twice the length of the bag the rice comes in, and approximately the same width.  Pour in the rice.  Sew end shut.  Heat in microwave for 3 ½ minutes, or 3 minutes 15 seconds.  Gently shake bag back and forth to “mix” the rice.  Spread rice out evenly inside bag.  Place on sore body parts.  JJJ  As bag cools, shake bag gently to mix up the rice and find the “warm stuff”.

 

Check the pockets. Always, always, always, ALWAYS check every single pocket before you do laundry.
